What & Why

Nature

“God has surrounded us with nature's beautiful scenery to attract and interest the mind. It is His design that we should associate the glories of nature with His character. If we faithfully study the book of nature, we shall find it a fruitful source for contemplating the infinite love and power of God” (EGW, Messages to Young People, pg 365).

The Nature program at Broken Arrow Ranch is designed to introduce young people to the wonderous creations of God. Campers will learn about the smallest foundations of life through microscopes, to the great expanse of the night sky through our telescope. In between, campers will learn how to care for the world God has made and entrusted into our care.

Crafts

“The great Master Artist has painted upon heaven’s shifting, changing canvas the glories of the setting sun. He has tinted and gilded the heavens with gold, silver, and crimson, as though the portals of high heaven were thrown open, that we might view its gleamings, and our imagination take hold of the glory within. Many turn carelessly from this heavenly wrought picture. They fail to trace the infinite love and power of God in the surpassing beauties seen in the heavens, but are almost entranced as they view and worship the imperfect paintings, in imitation of the Master Artist” (EGW, The Review and Herald, July 25, 1871).

The Crafts program at Broken Arrow Ranch is designed to introduce young people to beauty and art and creativity that may not be experienced elsewhere. Through everything from wood-burning to the pottery kiln, Campers will have an opportunity to bring things from their imaginations into reality. The crafts made at camp may become gifts to friends or family members, or sit on shelves for years to come as reminders that the act of creation continues as a gift from God. A gift we all participate in with our Creator every time we pick up a paintbrush or pencil, we share in the story of Genesis 1. God looks at our creative efforts today and says, “it is good!”

Activities

“Since the mind and the soul find expression through the body, both mental and spiritual vigor are in great degree dependent upon physical strength and activity; whatever promotes physical health, promotes the development of a strong mind and a well-balanced character.” (EGW, Education, pg. 195).

All of the activities at Broken Arrow Ranch serve a purpose. It is not just thwanging arrows in Archery or right turns on the Go-Karts, every activity we teach serves a greater purpose of developing body control and life lessons. Campers will learn that even as the archery draws back the bow demanding a certain strength and focus before letting the arrow go, so too our lives demand a strength and focus to attain our target goals and we must practice and miss the mark before becoming marksmen. Campers learn a variety of life lessons here at Broken Arrow Ranch, it is always more fun to learn about ourselves in safe environments. Our activities serve as a fun training ground for life.
